The RMS Titanic set sail on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City on 10th April 1912 with 2,223 people on board. Four days into the crossing, at 23:40 on 14th April, she struck an iceberg and sank at 2:20 the following morning, resulting in the loss of 1,517 lives.
