Monthly Competition Tuesday 1st September 2026

Hello everyone and welcome to this month’s Happy Puzzle competition!

For those of you who are new to this, for 14 weeks over lockdown we had an absolute blast creating weekly puzzles which were being received by well over 50,000 people each week. We had thousands of entries and each week a winner was drawn at random from the correct entries. As the weeks passed by, the puzzles were getting more and more ambitious and in the end, Gavin had to concede that he did not have the time to produce a new one every week. So we decided to make it a monthly thing, with the puzzle coming out at 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month.

Here we go then!

Here is the 89th PUZZLE and there is a £25 Happy Puzzle voucher up for grabs.

The County Link

School holidays are finally over, the heatwave has vanished, and for most of you, the summer holidays are now behind you. I took the opportunity this summer to explore some of the UK's most beautiful architecture and places of interest, but it got me thinking... i am wondering if you can name them all.

Below are flags of 20 counties (yes that's right, counties do have flags). Further down in this email, there are images of 19 places of interest. You will need to work out both the flags and the counties to win this competition.

To win the £25 Happy Puzzle voucher, once you have worked out both, you just need to tell me the name of the county that DOES NOT feature an image of a place of interest found in that county.

Please send your answer to me at josh@happypuzzle.co.uk, ensuring that you put SEPTEMBER 2026 PUZZLE in the subject line.

The competition closes at 23.59 on Wednesday 30th September 2026. Both the answers and the winner will then be drawn at random and revealed in next month’s puzzle on Tuesday 6th October 2026! My decision will be final!

Now back to August's competition.

We had lots of entries, and the correct answer is 6 of the countries were landlocked.

1) Austria -  Vienna

2) Switzerland -  Bern

3) Czech Republic - Prague.

4) Hungary - Budapest.

5) Serbia -  Belgrade.

6) Slovakia -  Bratislava.

We did have some people guess 7 with Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina) being a guess, but that actually has 12 small miles of coastline in-between Croatia.

The winner of this competition and the £25 voucher is Maria Baldy.

That’s it! Enjoy the competition.
