Part of the "Summer Holiday Collection" by Donna Flowers-Dorning, Club Tropicana is a bold, joyful collage of nostalgia and pop culture, and pays tribute to carefree summer days and iconic musical moments. The scene is packed with colour and character from George Michael lounging poolside with a cocktail in hand, to a vivid vintage WHAM! postcard capturing the spirit of 1983.
Look closer and you’ll find a pitcher of lavender, a zingy margarita garnished with lime, and a cheeky nod to 90s girl power – with handwritten lyrics from the Spice Girls’ Say You’ll Be There curling across a pink plant pot.
Layered with references to David Hockney, Vivienne Westwood, and bold tropical décor, this artwork is a vibrant celebration of style, sunshine and the sound of summer.
About The Artist
A lifelong creative, Donna Flowers-Dorning studied Art at college and went on to study Fashion at UCLAN in Preston. While she has always painted for pleasure, it was during lockdown that she developed her 'Still Life' series, drawing inspiration from patterns, plants, books, nostalgic food and drink, views, and artwork. Each piece is carefully composed to spark joy and evoke a sense of warmth and familiarity.
Donna's work is known for its vibrant detail, often incorporating text and pattern to create rich, expressive compositions. Her art is currently exhibited at Heart Gallery in Hebden Bridge, Sweet Magnolias in Hay-on-Wye, and Still Life in Ulverston. For Donna, creativity is a source of relaxation and joy—something that shines through in every piece she creates.
